DAVE

Streatham based rapper DAVE (previously known as Santan Dave) has already imprinted his musical footprints on the UK hip –hop scene after independently releasing his debut EP ‘Six Paths’  this September. At only 18 years old, he hit #1 on the Hip-Hop chart and #6 on iTunes album chart. FRASER T SMITH, Grammy Award winning producer (ADELE, KANO, STORMZY), and DAVE’S production partner 169 created the six track EP that ideally showcases smart wordplay and social commentary that has made DAVE notorious for. From then, DAVE started to grow, gaining fans from both STORMZY to DRAKE and even having DRAKE recently remixing DAVE’S track ‘Wanna Know’ for his OVO radio show. His debut headline show airing 9th December at Camden Assembly selling out in the space of 10 minutes.

GIRLI

Singer-cum-rapper GIRLI is another native Londoner. Once again, we have another determined young lady as at the age of 18 she has already collaborated with some of the most exciting new producers in London as well as having a sell out at The Garage (upstairs) for a special headline show this Summer. Not only does her music contain interesting observations and subtext underneath her trademark tongue-in-cheek style, she is candid and clever. At the age of 15, she openly gave a speech to the House of Commons on worker’s rights and feminism representing Camden as a Young MP. GIRLI is quickly becoming known for her unpredictable live shows where she has taken  stand to protesting agendas such as Brexit to the UK sanitary tax. HARE SQUEAD

HARE SQUEAD named favourite Irish hip-hop trio despite only being 18. Their new release, ‘Long Way To Go’ have added a touch of spice to the hip-hop scene with their retro-drenched themed video directed by ED MOUSTAFA and shot by BEN DOYLE. After meeting through a mutual love affair with skateboarding, they quickly discovered their shared affinity for music. This Trio soon realised they have a real spark writing together mastering their own blend of hip-hop, soul and pop that carries hints of resemblance to CHANCE THE RAPPER, DE LA SOUL and GOLDLINK with their own Dublin twist. The band members have grasped a unique dynamic between the smooth delivery of rappers TONY KONTONE and E-KNOCK with support of the soul-laden vocals of singer JESSY ROSE are named “YOUR NEW FAVOURITE IRISH HIP-HOP TRIO” by NOISEY as well as having their single “Long Way To Go” premiered via NOISEY too. The track is available to stream & purchase on all major digital platforms now via Columbia Records. The single was co-produced by MOON WILLIS (WSTRN, RAYE) and HARE SQUEAD themselves at Chocolate Factory. Two years on the music scene and the Trio have made an impactful impression in Ireland as they have so far played to huge crowds at Longitude and Electric picnic festivals summer 2016 and also, having their sell-out show at Dublin’s Button Factory in September. Rising superstar, DUA LIPA, has HARE SQUEAD currently supporting her on her sold-out European Tour.

KELSEY LU

We’re heading towards the Western side of the world to introduce you to NYC-based instrumentalist and singer KELSEY LU. Classically trained, KELSEY LU has released on True Panther/Matador her debut EP ‘Church’ this June. Not only has this earned her fans internationally, she has also collaborated with the likes of BLOOD ORANGE, KELELA, WET & SOLANGE. Additionally, she joined DEV HYNES onstage at the Apollo to play cello at his BLOOD ORANGE & FRIENDS benefit show, supported GRIMES in NYC and is the main support to SAMPHA throughout his Europe and US tour. KELSEY LU is by far more than just a talented musician, she is incredibly switched on and outspoken about feminism and black rights. PARRI$

We’re travelling again and this time we’re introducing PARRI$ – AKA Parris Goebel – a native New Zealander. Globally renowned choreographer she is responsible for videos from some of the biggest names in music including BEYONCE, NICKI MINAJ and RIHANNA.  You may recognise her as she starred in JUSTIN BIEBER’S ‘Sorry’ video and now she is finally taking the plunge and taking her first confident strides into music.  PARRI$ has released a numerous amount of videos that involved a series of eye-opening this year made her first confident strides into music with a series of incredible dance videos.

The now 24 year old released her latest track ‘Fiyah’ that’s exploded on the stream as a fusion of LA hip-hop and Brooklyn Bass. Her debut EP ‘Run & Tell Your Friends’ released October 17th so get to know her quickly before she becomes her own sensation.

Felix Nyajó, better known as salute, is now one of the most electrifying talents in electronica. This has been an astonishing year for salute as he is signed to the influential imprint 37 Adventures as well as attaining a successful support slot for the likes of FLUME & CARIBOU. Growing in Vienna raised by Nigerian parents before studying over in the UK has made salute musically aware leading to his August release of the hotly tipped ‘My Heart’ minialbum. Artist-cum-producer salute mad his minialbum a great introduction to his genre blurring electronica featuring vocals from a wealth of breakthrough talent such as D.R.A.M. & KAMAU. PITCHFORK, THE FADER, i-D, NOISEY & RADIO ONE stalwart HUW STEPHENS (who even invited salute and his live band to record a special Maida Vale session) have given their support over the minialbum. Even though he is currently on a European tour which includes dates at Amsterdam’s ADE & Paris’ Pitchfork Avant-Garde, salute is back in the studio writing music that will make up part of his debut LP, which is due for release in 2017.

 

SAINT PHNX

With their debut single ‘Reload’ released this summer this hotly tipped Glaswegian duo SAINT PHNX have been making continuous sound waves. ‘Reload’ is a 3-minute dose of stadium-ready choruses that perfectly showcases their vast ambition. The track drew early support from the likes of Q, 1883 MAGAZINE, DIGITAL SPY and BBC RADIO 1 as ‘Reload’ picked up over 100,000 views in a matter of days. PHIL TAGGERT described their sound as “Kasabian meeting TAME IMPALA in a Glasgow pub carpark for a big old dust up.”

Their second single ‘King’ has already transcended into the sync world with music supervisors selecting an early, unreleased version of the song for the coveted end credits of ITV’s Europa League Final coverage back in May, not to mention syncs across a number of other national channels in addition that was already released this November. The track again sees creative direction courtesy of DAVY EVANS (THE XX, FRYERS, salute) and coproduction form the band themselves. With a sold out show at Glasgow’s Nice’N’Sleazy in July and, in support of ‘King’, they are set to play more dates in November at the infamous King Tuts Wah Wah Hut as well as London’s Old Blue Last as part of The Great Escape’s ‘First Fifty’ showcase.

 

TAYLA

So we’re returning to the UK for our ONES TO WATCH 2017 musical journey with TAYLA, our Birmingham born talent. TAYLA described as a “legend in the making” by BBC 1xtra’s A Dot winning widespread acclaim with the release of her debut single ‘Call Me Danger’ The future star played her first London show to over 3000 people at the Sink the Pink Ball this September with her trademark 90’s R&B sound. Dubbed as the “kind of singer, songwriter and performer we need” by NOISEY, Tayla will be announcing a string of highly anticipated new singles and live dates throughout early next year.

The London based duo have made a smashing return this month with their innovative and elegant fusion of R&B, Soul and pop; germinating a unique urban sound. Renewing the typical girl/boy duo scene, these southeast Londoners merge the diverse sounds of both electronica and pop music with their soothing harmonies and purest vocals. The single “Guilty Pleasure” first aired on Huw Stephens Radio1 show on 19th October 2016, following on from their debut track “Lies” which premiered on Fader UK, receiving acknowledgments from the likes of DIY, The Line of Best Fit and Clash.

When asked about the meaning of their new single, they said, “Guilty Pleasure is about being addicted to a secret; it’s a casual fling that is suddenly serious; feelings of regret turn to euphoria; a desperate need to unload your obsession onto someone without knowing why.” Their single’s synopsis explains our own deep, tainted secret, which they openly expose. Lines like “I remember falling when I read your eyes” and You’re not just my Guilty Pleasure… You know you’re more than that” bring flashbacks to a time when we all felt spellbound by our own… guilty pleasure.

“Guilty Pleasure” is out now via Machine Records – founded by management company Machine (YEARS & YEARS, REJJIE SNOW, NIMMO etc).

 

TUSKS

Signed to notorious label One Little Indian earlier this year, London based artist & producer EMILY UNDERHILL shall release her ‘False’ EP in the summer.

Her EP consists of four stunning tracks that perfectly showcases her captivating voice and cinematic arrangements. WONDERLAND labelled TUSKS as “a force to be reckoned with” as she draws comparisons to the likes of THE XX & DAUGHTER due to the nature of her sound. TUSKS spent the last year supporting the likes of SUBMOTION ORCHESTRA & DREAM KOALA  as well as honing her live shows that is set to play her debut headline show at London’s Waiting Rooms this November.
