Trevor Ashley is a cabaret legend with a career spanning eighteen successful, drag fuelled years. He’s an absolute stunner in a wig and make up, with an adorable laugh, knockout voice, and an ability to strut the stage in killer heels that will make most, if not all women insanely jealous.
Liza Minnelli was born March 12, 1946 and is an American actress and singer. With a career spanning six decades, she has reached legendary status in multiple fields of entertainment and is among a small group of entertainers who have been honored with an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award.
Put the two together and you have Trevor Ashely’s show, Liza’s Back (is broken) gracing the spiegeltent stage in the London Wonderground for a limited time only! Channelling Liza with speech quirks, accent, and all, (and sometimes her dear mother Judy Garland as well), Ashley owns the stage with a martini in hand. Straight out of rehab Liza decides to take us on a journey through the musical roles she ‘could have taken’ but didn’t. Leading lady roles from Mame to Grizabella to Norma Desmond are all tackled in true cabaret style with Ashley’s voice, and Liza’s personality. Wicked, Les Mis, and even the Sound of Music cannot escape rendition. It’s a great night for broadway fans; my personal favourites were Send in the clowns, Cabaret, and New York, New York!
And if there is a secret Liza Minnelli fan in you somewhere, you definitely should not miss this show!
Liza’s back (is broken) is at the London Wonderground 2 & 3 September, Friday 9:30pm and Saturday 10:30pm. Tickets available through www.londonwonderground.co.uk
